That's exciting, Sean. Adding effort & inspiration to a dream and finding it fun must be very rewarding. Hope the new year find you completing your draft.

It's a fantasy story I've been working on in various forms since I was about eleven (so for the past fifteen years), and just this month I suddenly made about a thousand changes to the premise and started writing. It's fun! My goal is to have a first draft done in two years.

We do that a lot don't we? (Think more of our failures than our successes). Glad found 3, Sean - and I wonder what would have happened if I'd said 5? (I suspect there'd have been a couple more)

Thanks for visiting and well done on 3 huge accomplishments. What's the genre of your novel?

This is my first time on your blog, Pete, and this is the first entry I've even read, but I accept your invitation.

Accomplishment #1: Being promoted from shelver to associate librarian at the Salt Lake City Public Library (Utah, USA).

Accomplishment #2: Actually starting to write my novel.

Accomplishment #3: Starting to work out regularly and eat more sensibly.

This exercise was interesting, because I immediately thought of the first and second achievements, and then had to sit and think for a while to come up with a third. I do tend to dwell on failures (perceived or actual) at the expense of my successes. I should make a habit of recalling things that go well or that I do well to outweigh that tendency.

Thanks, Bob, I'm surprised you have the energy to blog after all those house moves! (I'd be incredibly anti-social and reclusive after that).

I'm now off to your blog again to read about your scientific accomplishment. Sounds like a huge year for you!

Pete, it was kind of you to stop by the Middle Zone! Your invitation to contribute to your blog is appreciated. I actually started writing a quick reponse, but it ended up becoming today's post at the Zone (you know how long-winded bloggers can get). You can read the whole thing here, but I'll sum it up for you here, in no particular order:

1. I started blogging this year, and it's been more fun than I ever imagined! I mean, here I am having a conversation with people across the globe - what a trip!
2. I made a contribution to science that should stand the test of time (you'll have to read the post for details on that one).
3. The missus and I moved into a new house this year after quite a long journey (65+ moves over the last 25 years), and this one looks like the last move for a while. Hooray!

Yes, you've put 4 things here and you will lnly be allowed to post 2/3 of a comment next time!

Seriously, I think this are wonderful achievements and have benefited from "being" one of them! This time last year, I had no idea what ftp, autoresponders and RSS were - and I'd couldn't imagine having let alone managing a website. Thanks for your collaboration during 2006, Leah!

Firstly, congratulations Xander - you deserve that big smile.

Now onto your challenge Pete .... achievements ... well getting you all techo'ed up and blogging was a pretty big one :-)

I would also have to say confirming my truth as a tech-design-geek and going with that passion. As well as the connection that I continue to grow with my family (step-kids and husband) and the patience that I am learning through them (bugger that's 4 things).
